DUNFERMLINE Water Polo Club climbed out of the pool with victories and medals after their annual tournament at the Carnegie Leisure Centre last Saturday.

More than 40 kids made a splash at the fun event - part of the Sport For All Festival, which encourages youngsters to give different sports a try.

The idea was to introduce them to a friendly but competitive sport and saw Dunfermline's two teams take on sides from Stirling and Falkirk.

Each club had a 2001 age group team and a mini polo side made of primary school-age players, some as young as nine.

Two round-robin groups were played in front of a generous and enthusiastic crowd over a four-hour period.

Overall, the victories and gold medals went to the Dunfermline teams, who both remained undefeated, while an exciting silver-medal match saw Stirling edge out Falkirk 6-4.

The Dunfermline club's president, Iain Thomson, said, "I'd like to compliment all these young stars of the future for their efforts and would like to thank everyone for making the afternoon such a special event.

"With over 40 youngsters taking part, this tournament clearly demonstrated that water polo is reaching out to ever younger players wanting to combine fun in the water with an exciting team sport."

The club also held come and try sessions during the week which resulted in several new faces on Sunday night eager to try out water polo.
