WEST FIFE swimmers will have impressed the British selectors responsible for selecting Paralympic teams for 2008 and 2012 when they competed at the British Senior Short Course Championships for swimmers with a disability at Ponds Forge in Sheffield recently.
Andrew Lindsay should be in the GB team for Beijing next year as he has an outstanding record in his class for the 100 metres backstroke and is currently undefeated in that event for the past decade.
In Sheffield he confirmed his form with a new world short course record of 1:14.47 plus a second place in the 400m freestyle and a third place in the 50m butterfly.
Young Craig Rodgie, from Dalgety Bay and Carnegie Swimming Club, received his international classification of S14 class for swimmers with a learning disability recently and since joining the local and national programme has turned in some outstanding performances and is a definite prospect for international honours in 2008.
His main goal will be the European championships in the Czech Republic towards the end of the summer.
In Sheffield he made his mark at the senior championships with four second place finishes in the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 50 m backstroke and 50m butterfly.
In the same S14 class Rebecca Lee, from Dalgety Bay, one of Britain's leading female swimmers, won national titles in the 100m backstroke and 50m backstroke plus four other top three finishes.
Rebecca has overcome a neck injury which affected her performance at the recent world championships in Belgium and resulted in her withdrawing from several events.
