CARNEGIE Swimming Club"s young swimmers were first after day one of the inaugural Portobello Mad March Meet at Prestonpans Swimming Pool.

Leading the way with tremendous performances were Sophie Ross, who took best girl in the eight years category with three golds and two silvers, and 10-year-old Jack Szaranek, who won best boy with gold, three silvers and a fourth place.

Close behind them were Sally Christie (9) with two golds and two bronze medals and 11-year-old Craig Bowman with three golds and one silver, both narrowly missing out on best swimmer awards.

Club newcomer Aimee Adam had two terrific personal bests in the 50m fly and 200m free taking gold medals in both while Andrew England won gold in the 50m back.

Andrew was part of the nine-year-old relay team with Michael Watson, Lucy Bedborough and Sally Christie which took gold in a very exciting medley relay and silver in the freestyle.

The 10-year-old relay team of Jack Szaranek, Megan Hill, Aimee Adam and Robbie Carmichael took two silver medals.

The club showed strength in depth with silver medals going to Claire Lee and Zoe Mitchell and bronze to Michael Watson and Ruth Laird.

On the second day of the meet, the older swimmers continued Carnegie"s success with Kieran Harper taking silver in the 200m back and Olivia Scott winning bronze in the 200m free.
