TEEN talent Callum Smith admitted that hitting the back of the net on Saturday was “the best feeling of my life”.

Smith, 17, scored his first goal for the club, stroking home after being set up by Scott Lochhead.

He followed that up by coming on for the final 10 minutes of Tuesday’s game at East Fife and, after it went to penalties to decide who would win a bonus point, he scored what would prove to be the ninth and decisive penalty.

Speaking to Press Sport after the game, however, he laughed: “I was hoping I wasn’t going to have to take one!

“But I did and I had to be confident and take my chance when it came, and thankfully it came good in the end. We missed a few last season so to score nine on the trot there, hopefully we can add a few more this season.

“Scoring (on Saturday) was the best feeling of my life probably. It was a great feeling; I have to try and take my chance, which is all I can do, and hopefully I’ll get more of an opportunity with the first team. I’m really grateful to the manager for giving me a chance.

“I think I’ve worked hard and feel I deserve it.”

He added: “I’ll try and play as well as I can for the first team; I may go out on loan but I’m not sure yet, we’ll just have to wait and see what the manager decides. I just have to kick on and try to hopefully get in the starting team.”
