NAT WEDDERBURN insists his Pars team-mates are not ready to give up on fighting for the title yet.

The midfielder conceded that while St Mirren are in pole position to be crowned champions, a win over the Buddies in 10 days time could plant a seed of doubt in their minds.

The 26-year-old was named the sponsors man of the match in Saturday's stalemate with Dundee United, a game he felt should have yielded three points.

The result was cheered by the table-topping Buddies, whose 2-0 win at Dumbarton allowed them to extend their advantage to eight points over United, and 15 over the Pars.

Dunfermline do have a game in-hand but, when asked after the game whether the play-offs would be a more realistic target, Wedderburn commented: "We will keep going. There are still a lot of games to play. We have St Mirren in a couple of weeks and if we can get a win over them you never know what can happen.

"I know it is difficult in this league but if we can get five or six wins on the bounce then we surely won't be far off."

Although frustrated not to have got the three points he felt his side deserved, Wedderburn has been cheered by Dunfermline's recent upturn in form.

A run of one win in 10 league games was arrested by a win over Brechin City two days before Christmas, the start of a four-match unbeaten run that has brought three successive clean-sheets.

Dunfermline will look to keep the momentum going when they entertain Morton in the Scottish Cup this Saturday ahead of locking horns with Saints in a televised clash a week on Friday.

Wedderburn continued: "We want to win all our home games and in the form that we have been on we were confident of going into the game for a win.

"We have stuck together and kept believing because we know the quality that we have in the team. Once we got that first win, confidence has come more into the team.

"We are confident of beating anyone in this league. They (United) had a bad result last week and maybe that's not the best thing because they would come and try and prove a point. It was just unfortunate that we did not get the win.

"We were a bit more solid like we have shown in recent games. We did not have many chances against us. We could have done better by putting the ball in the back of the net and all that was needed was just that one goal because I thought we were pretty comfortable."
