TURNING on the style at his old stomping ground was pleasing for Fraser Aird but he insists he’s already putting it to the back of his mind.

While he had the travelling Pars fans walking on Aird by netting Dunfermline’s second goal – which turned out to be the winner – at Falkirk, he says it will mean nothing if they don’t continue their winning streak this weekend.

And the in-form winger is relishing the opportunity to play his part in helping the club achieve their play-off ambitions after forcing his way back into Allan Johnston’s starting line-up.

The 23-year-old has started in each of Dunfermline’s last three matches – which have all ended in victory – to help them move third and leave their play-off destiny in their own hands.

Three wins from their final three games will be enough for a top-four finish and, speaking to Press Sport this week, Aird said his focus had already moved on from beating the Bairns.

“It’s nice to put in a good performance and I was lucky enough to get a goal but, from a personal point of view, the main thing was to get three points and keep our run going,” he said.

“It was good to keep my place in the team, keep the run going and get three points against my old club. That’s always nice but at the end of the day, the three points were key for us, and keeping us on our run for a play-off push was the main thing.

“I was getting a bit of stick in the first half when I was taking a few corners but it was always going to happen; it’s just part of football.

“I showed my emotion when I scored – I don’t score that many goals – so it’s always nice to score in a game. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your old club, or against Brechin or Dumbarton or Inverness at home, and obviously it turned out to be the winner.

“I waited a long time to get my run in the team and it’s came now at a crucial stage of the season. I’m happy to be part of it, and our winning ways right now, and hopefully we can keep that up because, if we keep winning, then it gives the manager a decision to make on team selection.

“We’ve won our last three but that doesn’t mean anything now – we need to go and win our next three.

“Win our next three and we’re automatically in the play-offs but we need to take each game as it comes, and a big three points on Saturday is necessary.”

Although he’s not looking too far ahead, Aird believes the Pars have hit form at the right time and admits that, in addition to fighting for a play-off spot, the squad are also playing for their futures.

A number of the Athletic squad are out of contract this summer, and he continued: “We’re all playing for our futures and for contracts. It’s nice to hit a bit of form and, if I can keep up the goals, assists and level of performance, then I’ll hopefully have something on the table towards the end of the season.

“I’m happy with my run in the team but I just need to keep going and keep doing what I’m doing every day in training and, when I get the chance, keep doing what I’m doing.

“I think we’ve hit form at a good time of the season. We always emphasise in training that we like to play attacking football and we’ve a lot of good attacking players in our team but recently we’ve showed another side to our game, where we can defend.

“When we’ve come up against it in the last 15 minutes of games and we’ve been under the cosh and under pressure, we’ve dealt with that fine.

“At the start of the season we were flying, scoring goals and we’re starting to see glimpses of it. I think when we do that we’re a better team for it.

“Nicky (Clark) is on fire with the goals he’s been scoring and Deccy’s (McManus) work-rate off the ball has been absolutely excellent. But, as a team, if we can keep playing as we are, on the front foot and with the positive style that we are playing, hopefully it’ll be enough to get three points on Saturday.”
