Goal hero Kirk rues 'Jekyll and Hyde' season

GOAL hero Andy Kirk said Dunfermline have shown such a split personality in league form it had been a 'Jekyll and Hyde' season – with too many hidings at home.

The forward grabbed an 86th minute goal against Morton on Tuesday night to secure third place in the first division with a game remaining.

It is the Pars first home win of 2009, a shocking statistic, and top scorer Kirk said the team and backroom staff had still not got their head around it.

Reflecting on the season, he said, 'It"s been one of those things over the year and has been so hard to put our finger on.

'Sometimes we"ve been the dominant team at home and some games have ended up just 1-0 – it"s just one of those things.

'You try and work different systems and different tactics and things like that – but it never seemed to work at home.

'Away from home it was different.

'It was like Jekyll and Hyde. If we had a half-decent home form at all we could have been up there challenging.'

Kirk has been one of Dunfermline"s more consistent performers and grabbed the second goal against a battling Ton side, despite the unruly attention of a defence whose constant grappling could make them decent wrestlers.

He added, 'Every time we"ve played them it"s been a battle because they have big, strong players.

'Some long balls are hard to cope with when you have (Stewart) Greacen and (Alan) McManus against you.

'But I think it was pride more than anything else – we wanted to finish as high as we could.

'I was just glad to see the shot hit the net.'
