DUNFERMLINE new boy Jonathan Page believes the club should do everything they can to keep his defensive partner Callum Morris at East End Park.

The former Morton defender has added some much needed steel to the Pars backline since he signed in January, with the team picking up four wins in his first four starts and conceding just three goals.

But while the 24-year-old has been delighted with the start he has made, he believes a lot of the credit must go to last year’s player-of-the-season Morris.

He told Press Sport, “It goes without saying that Callum is a fantastic player, he has masses of ability and potential. He has all the best attributes for a defender and just makes my job easier. But equally, I have been very impressed with the other young centre halves here, Lewis (Martin), Kerr (Young) and Declan (O’Kane) are very high quality, it’s good to have that competition.

“I’m under contract until the end of the season and the goal is trying to get a longer deal. I would love to stay, it’s a big club with a good set-up and I’d be delighted if I got the chance.” After the flying start to his Pars career there was a hiccup on Saturday as Stranraer clinched a 3-1 win and Page knows that the team must get back to winning ways to build momentum heading into the play-offs.

He said, “When you first come to a new club you hope to have some good results to start and that’s what we have got. I’m a quiet lad but the boys have been very welcoming.

“Saturday was a big disappointment from a defensive point of view. It’s important we hold our hands up and then go out in the next game and put those wrongs right and try and get the win.

“I’ve been asking some of the other boys about what to expect from Stenhousemuir in the next match and we will look at that a lot during the week. We know it looks like it’s going to come down to two games in the play-off semis and another two in the final but we feel we have good enough players to go out and win.”
