PARS boss Jim Jefferies is set to keep tabs on Norwegian winger Steffen Bøifot after he arrived at Pitreavie for a week-long trial.

The 26-year-old (pictured) trained with the squad on Monday and was set to take part in a double session on Thursday and train on Friday before heading home tomorrow (Sunday). If he impresses, Jefferies could invite him back for pre-season.

Jefferies had hoped to take a look at Bøifot, who plays his football for Stavanger-based club Hundvåg, in Tuesday's under-20s match with Kilmarnock at Broadwood but red tape meant that he was unable to feature.

The player was recommended by the Norwegian club's director, Audun Johannessen, who secured a trial for striker Preben Erland with the club in 2011, and Jefferies told Press Sport, "We were hoping to get clearance to allow him to play but SFA rules say that you can't get clearance to play a player from abroad as a trialist in the under-20s. You can bring them over and play bounce games but they are difficult to set up at this time of the season.

"He was recommended to us and he is a little bit older but has been scoring goals. He can play either wide on the left or right, through the middle and is quick.

"He did OK on Monday but it's too early to say if we're interested in him as it's difficult to judge just in training.

"But we'll keep tabs on him and maybe look to invite him back over in pre-season as nothing can be done until then anyway." Jefferies, meanwhile, has called on fans to be patient ahead of today's (Saturday) derby with East Fife as he expects Gary Naysmith's men to try to frustrate his side.

The Methil side snatched a 2-1 victory at East End Park in October but were hammered 5-0 by the Pars' play-off rivals, Ayr United, on Saturday and he said, "These are two important home games that we have coming up and if we can get full points from them, we'll be in a very good position but we need to concentrate on East Fife first.

"They're fighting for their lives and will probably come and park the bus so we've got to be patient. The crowd has to play their part as well and understand that teams respect us greatly at home when you see what Stenhousemuir did.

"They need to keep encouraging the boys as one more than them is enough to get the points but we've got to concentrate on ourselves and move the ball quickly because if we don't it'll make it harder for us." Jefferies said that Ryan Scully was likely to miss Saturday's clash with the dislocated toe he suffered at Ibrox while Danny Grainger is out through suspension. Ryan Wallace will continue to be monitored as he seeks to return from a groin problem while Josh Falkingham is expected to return.
