PARS boss Jim Jefferies says his side are relishing what he believes are two tough matches on league and cup duty.

The Athletic faithful were left frustrated as they drew a blank in their League One opener with Brechin City and travel to Forfar today (Saturday) before hosting Falkirk in the Petrofac Training Cup on Tuesday night.

A clash with their bitter rivals from across the Kincardine Bridge is one that Jefferies’ squad are looking forward to but he has challenged his players to embark on a winning run in their quest for promotion – starting at Station Park.

After suffering three successive defeats away to the Loons, the Pars recorded a fine 4-2 victory on their last visit in February and Jefferies told Press Sport, “Cup ties are all about getting through, and we played two, got through and played well which was good for us.

“The league is decided over 36 games and although we were frustrated on Saturday, we’re not too down about it. There was nothing much wrong with the performance but it was just one of those days. They came and had a job to do, defended very well and made it difficult for us which worked for them. Teams get a lift from coming to Dunfermline and we’ll play a lot worse and win during the season.

“You look at the league positions once you’ve played everybody and know what you’re up against but it’s important to try and go on a winning run. Forfar’s a tough place to go; Dick’s done what he usually does and added some experienced players during the summer and Hubby (Stephen Husband) will be back available for them! He’s a good player but Chris Templeman is comfortable with how they play, Dale Hilson is a good player and Gavin Swankie is one of the better players in the league. We need to play as well as we can.” Jefferies commented that the Falkirk clash is “another big game to look forward to and helps the club financially”, and striker Michael Moffat added, “Those are the teams that you want to be measured against as that’s where we want to be playing next season, in the Championship. Falkirk will be another wee bit of a step-up from Raith but it’s good to judge yourself against these teams.” Gregor Buchanan may miss out on the opportunity to face hometown club Falkirk after sustaining a swollen ankle against Brechin. He is a doubt for Saturday, with the manager adding he may be out for a couple of weeks. He was, however, optimistic that Alex Whittle would return to training today (Thursday) after jarring his knee in the warm-up on Saturday, while Josh Falkingham returns to the squad after suspension.
