ONE of Scotland’s gold medal-winning Commonwealth Games stars will visit East End Park today (Thursday) to officially open a new facility for disabled supporters.

Libby Clegg, who won the 100 metres at Hampden Park in the T12 category for visually-impaired athletes, will mark the construction of a new viewing platform in the east enclosure of the main stand by chatting to players, the management team and supporters about the challenges she has faced as a disabled athlete.

The platform will provide space for four wheelchair users and have access to toilet and catering facilities. It has been sponsored by marketing firm ESPC who provide support for the 24-year-old sprinter, who also boasts one world championship and two European championship gold medals on her CV.

Pars director Ross McArthur said, “East End Park is already one of the best stadia in Scotland for disabled fans to visit – it is joint top in the Scottish Disabled Supporters Association’s league table of grounds to visit - but our aim is to be the clear number one and to move on from there.

“As a community club DAFC is committed to making our stadium accessible to all fans, both able-bodied and disabled.

"Involvement with the whole community is now written into our core values. We are determined to re-connect with the West Fife community and businesses, and it’s encouraging that so many local firms have got involved again with the Pars.

"We are already in discussion with a number of other local, regional and national businesses who are keen to support DAFC with our accessibility programme.

“DAFC is also very grateful to The Purvis Group, AK Moyes and Stephen Vaughan Electrical for their work in constructing the new facility.” Commenting ahead of the event, Libby said, “I’m excited to be attending Dunfermline Athletic to help celebrate the completion of this latest project which I’m sure will be greatly appreciated by the clubs supporters.

“It’s great to see DAFC continuing to improve facilities to help provide access for all to be able to enjoy sport in this way.” Amy Walker, marketing manager at ESPC, added, “We are delighted to support Dunfermline Athletics’ new facility which will enable more disabled supporters to feel part of their local club.

“Since we started sponsoring Libby Clegg in 2012, she has inspired and enthused everyone she meets. She has overcome significant personal challenges to become a world leading athlete and is a fantastic role model for running and sport in general. “The new disabled access is a welcome additional and gives disabled supporters an opportunity to support their club alongside other fans.”
