Director Jim Leishman and former skipper Scott Thomson helped announce details of the game this morning (Monday) that will see proceeds split between the Pars Foundation and the Celtic FC Foundation.

Among the names confirmed to take part for the Pars on Sunday 6th September are Andrius Skerla, Andy Tod, Stewart Petrie, Stevie Crawford and Marco Ruitenbeek, while Tosh McKinlay, Tom Boyd and former Athletic stars Jackie McNamara and Simon Donnelly are set to line up for the Hoops.

Mr Stein (pictured) was appointed as Pars boss in March 1960 and after saving the club from relegation, he led them to their first Scottish Cup triumph a year later when they defeated Celtic in a replay at Hampden.

He then led to the club into the European arena for the first time, masterminding famous victories over Everton and Valencia, before leaving to join Hibernian in 1964.

Just a year later Stein was appointed as Celtic manager and he guided them to European Cup glory in 1967 during a trophy-laden spell at Parkhead.

After being appointed as national team boss in 1978, Stein led his country to the 1982 World Cup but died on 10th September 1985 after suffering a heart attack during Scotland's World Cup qualifying draw with Wales at Ninian Park which secured a play-off match against Australia.

Mr Leishman commented, "Jock Stein is an iconic figure within Scottish football, but is truly legendary at Celtic and here at Dunfermline Athletic. He laid the foundation for the halcyon years we had at East End Park in the 60's, which included so many fantastic adventures in Europe.

"Celtic will rightly always remember their great triumph in Lisbon, but Pars fans will never forget the scenes in 1961, which went well into the night when the open top bus returned from Hampden with the Scottish Cup. Mr Stein had taken our club to its first national trophy and we then went on to notable wins against Everton and Valencia in European ties.

"He was sadly taken away from us guiding the national team to the World Cup in 1985, but it is a fitting tribute to Mr Stein that we will be able to commemorate his death some 30 years later, with a charity match between our two great clubs. Celtic and Dunfermline have always had a very close relationship, and much of that is due to the great man."

Pars Foundation trustee Richard Dixon added, "The idea to play a match between DAFC Legends and Celtic Legends to honour a man of the stature of Jock Stein is fantastic, and I am sure he would be delighted to know that the match and dinner proceeds would be split between the two charities to help and support our local community and charitable objectives."

A charity dinner at the Glen Pavilion will also be held after the match, which will kick off at 2pm.

Tickets, which are priced £12 for adults and £6 for concessions, are available to buy from the Pars club shop and ticket office at East End Park, by calling 01383 745909 or by visiting www.parsonline.co.uk.
