THE Skids are returning to Dunfermline for a home town concert at the Alhambra, it has been confirmed.

Tickets went on sale on Monday and look set to be in great demand given the response the last time the band played here in the summer of 2007, when they sold out two nights at the Glen Pavilion.

They return on Saturday 6th March as part of the inaugural Fifer Festival, which is recognising the work of the band's singer Richard Jobson, who has gone on to achieve fame in other fields, most recently film directing.

The Skids, with the late Stuart Adamson a driving force, stormed on to the music scene during the heyday of punk in the late '70s.

They had a string of hits such as 'Into the Valley', 'The Saints Are Coming', 'Masquerade' and 'Working for the Yankee Dollar'.

The band split in the early '80s but there has been a revival of interest in them recently.

In 2006, U2 and Green Day took The Skids music to a global audience when they released a cover of 'The Saints Are Coming' to raise funds for hurricane victims in New Orleans.

The next year, The Skids re-formed to mark their 30th anniversary with an appearance at T in the Park and the two Dunfermline dates.

Just a few weeks ago they were in action again when they played the Homecoming Year concert at the SECC.
