DUNFERMLINE'S Vertis have been selected to appear on a new compilation featuring some of the best up-and-coming bands in Scotland.

The band's song Without You appears on A Sort of Homecoming, a 21-track CD compiled by Peebles-based Fourtrak records.

Label boss and former Dunfermline man Bobby Mooney (40) praised the band - Alan Paterson (22), Ed Kozak (22) and Andrew Stoll (29) - and said he had no hesitation in classing them as one of Scotland's most promising acts.

He said, "One of the other interesting things about the band is that they've only been in existence a hair's breadth longer than a year.

"The result of the band's Biffy Clyro meets Buffalo Tom meets Queens of the Stone Age melange is a unique and exciting sound that is accessible and catchy."

The trio have been gaining momentum following appearances at Edinburgh's Edge Festival and various gigs in the capital.

A Sort of Homecoming features 19 Scottish artists including indie-pop, folk, country and punk acts.

Mr Mooney, whose father, Bobby Spence, was a member of pre-Nazareth band The Shadettes, said, "The basic idea behind the compilation is to celebrate new Scottish music in the Homecoming year, since Scotland has always punched above its weight in terms of music.

"We also wanted to support provincial music and avoid the geographical bias that exists in the music industry, which is still centred around London, Glasgow and Edinburgh to a certain extent.

"The majority of bands are unsigned, but there are a couple of T in the Park veterans on there as well as some who have released records on labels in Sweden, Japan and the UK, although none are household names.

"We handpicked about five of the bands and the rest were selected from over 500 submissions that we received for the compilation."

A Sort of Homecoming is released on Monday and is available from most record stores and iTunes or from the website, www.fourtrakrecords.co.uk.

Vertis play the Electric Circus, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 24th November.
