Culross festival was 'perfect'
IT opened in 'Perfect' sunshine on Friday with Eddi Reader and, despite Sunday's rain clouds, around 1000 people enjoyed the Culross Musical and Arts Festival.
The Scots singer kicked off the three day summer festival which also packed in open-air opera in the gardens of Lord Bruce's Abbey House.
Eddi, formerly with Fairground Attraction, was backed by The Deal and Alex Hynes before Saturday's performance of Bizet's classic 'Carmen' by Opera Novella.
A tale of jealousy and desire, it was enjoyed by picnicking families in the afternoon sunshine.
The weather turned but the audiences still turned out for Sunday's performance of Mozart's 'Cosi Fan Tutte'.
Spokeswoman Ann Macdonald said, "It's the first time we've ever tried two operas but it went really well.
"I'm fairly sure Culross Festival is the only one in Scotland to do open-air operas, we're known for that, so we may well try it again next year."
She added, "It was absolutely packed for Eddi Reader's show and I would love her to come back as the tickets sold themselves.
"She's a big fan of Burns and, at the end, Lord Bruce told her and the audience that Rabbie Burns had actually stayed at Abbey House.
"Apparently he was a guest there in 1787."

Report commentHurrah, hurrah. What a fantastic ambassador Eddi Reader is for Scotland. What a sensational night. The mark of a true star and performer is that they will play to a (somewhat) limited audience in a small village, attractive as it is, like Culross.I, and my family and friends had a great night and open air provides a certain je ne sais quoi that cannot be gotton indoors.I would like to thank the organisers for managing such a project, and although I'm not an opera person, it shows the diversity of the venue and the creativity of a committee to put this weekend together. I will be back next year,
