STOP me if you've heard this one - a Dunfermline comedian is up for a top gong in this year's Scottish Variety Awards.

Wise-cracking Ross 'Teddy' Craig (30) is among the nominees in the Best Up and Coming Comedian category, where he's up against Limmy, of BBC2's 'Limmy's Show', Kevin Bridges, from 'Gary Tank Commander' and Michael

McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, and comedienne/writer Elaine Malcolmson.

Ross, formerly of Transy Grove, found out two weeks ago that he had been nominated for the award.

The ex-Commercial Primary pupil said, "I don't really expect to win because it's a very strong field. But because it's an internet vote it's worth a try!

"I'm not really sure how I got nominated but I'm very happy to be named along with people of that stature.

"I don't have any expectations but it's very flattering and it's nice to get some sort of recognition."

It's not the first nomination for Ross, who's been doing stand-up for 12 years - in 2009, he was runner-up in two competitions, the Scottish Comedian of the Year final and STV's Write Factor.

Prior to moving to Glasgow in 2005, he worked at his parents' store, Watt and Dewar Ironmongers in New Row, and used to organise a regular stand-up night at Monty's in Guildhall Street.

He has worked as a writer, script editor and producer with The Comedy Unit, which produces TV favourites Still Game and The Karen Dunbar Show, and he is a regular guest on the radio show MacAulay & Co.

He is currently gigging across Scotland and preparing for his solo show at the upcoming Glasgow Comedy Festival.

In addition, he is working on two commissioned BBC Radio Scotland comedy pilots, one of which is called Inverceleb and is a spoof of celebrities both Scottish and UK-wide.

Despite his impressive CV, he joked, "Given that Kevin Bridges has sold out at the SECC and Limmy has his own show, I think it's difficult to compete with that.

"But if anyone would like to see an underdog win, then they can vote for me!"
