OFFICE space to help West Fife workers who aren't keen to return to their previous commute has opened up in Dunfermline.

Hive Work Spaces has taken over Dalgety House in Viewfield Terrace and, after a revamp during lockdown, now offers co-workspaces and private offices to local workers and companies.

Business owner Stephen McKenzie set up the venture after being made redundant from his previous job as an operations director for a successful restaurant business.

"I was made redundant due to COVID and was thinking what might I do," he explained. "I commuted down over the bridge before COVID and it occurred to me people might not be wanting to commute into the city centre at all.

"Dunfermline was the obvious choice. We opened up for business a couple of weeks ago and have a couple of customers already. People who were working from the kitchen tables and bedrooms.

"We are able to welcome people who need a proper work space to get working."

Single desks and private offices are able to be rented in the building, which dates from 1897, while a meeting room, kitchens and disabled facilities are also available.

"We have been doing quite a lot of viewings with people who are needing space and people who are desperate to get back just to get that bit of normality," added Stephen.

"It is such a beautiful building. It was a wee bit tired when I got the key but we have spruced it up. It is so close to the bus station and the train station so we are hoping it is going to be buzzing like a good hive should be."
