EMILY Burns is an English rose with Scottish roots.
The London-based 23-year-old singer-songwriter told her Belladrum crowd she was born in Livingston before moving south of the border, where she lost her Scottish lilt.
Making her debut at the Highland festival on Friday, Burns showcased several stripped-back songs from her EP, Seven Scenes From The Same Summer.
With a little help from her looper, melodic hits Bitch, Cheat, Test Drive and Girlfriend at the Time went down a treat with the audience and gave listeners a glimpse into why Burns has easily racked up millions of streams on Spotify with her punchy pop.
Burns, who reached the final of Live and Unsigned in 2010 and subsequently enjoyed a masterclass at Abbey Road Studios where she met Sir Paul McCartney and Calvin Harris, is now signed to record label 37 Adventures – which was founded by the team that launched Marina and the Diamonds. She has a bright future in front of her.

Unfortunately as it was a beautiful day, the XpoNorth Seedlings Stage wasn’t as packed out as it should have been. That was in no fault Burns’, but instead the festivalgoers who avoided the sweaty tent. For those that were there, they’ll be able to say they saw Burns before anyone else when she one day returns to headline the impressive outdoor Garden Stage.
