Staff were told on Wednesday evening that the town centre outlet will shut on Saturday 30th November.

McDonald's, the world's largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, has traded at 104 High Street for almost 24 years.

Franchisee Adam Buchanan Smith said, "I can confirm that in conjunction with McDonald’s, we have taken the difficult decision to close our restaurant on the High Street in Dunfermline.

"I can assure you that this decision was not taken lightly, especially having traded in the town centre for nearly 24 years.

"However, it has become increasingly apparent in recent years that trading patterns in Dunfermline have changed significantly.

"Our final day of trading on the High Street will be Saturday the 30th of November.

"The majority of our staff will be offered jobs at our other restaurants in Dunfermline.

"It is essential that we continue to have the right restaurants in the right places to ensure that we stay relevant and convenient for our customers.

"Our two other Dunfermline restaurants, located within ASDA at the Halbeath Retail Park and our Drive Thru operating 24 hours at the Fife Leisure Park, are serving more local customers than ever before.

"I remain fully committed to Dunfermline and my restaurants will continue to work in partnership with the local community on a range of initiatives including our community litter picks and support for local grassroots football teams.

"I would like to thank all of our customers who have supported the restaurant over the years and also to all of my staff and colleagues.

"My restaurant teams look forward to continuing to provide a great customer experience at our restaurants in Dunfermline."
