A DUNFERMLINE mum is preparing to fire up the barbecue for charity and say ‘burger off’ to cancer.

Lorraine McRoberts, the chair of the Dunfermline committee of Cancer Research UK, hopes the fund-raising event will be a sizzling success.

The committee is hosting a BBQ and quiz on Friday 18th July, at Rosyth Civil Service Club, and is inviting everyone to back the charity at the fun night.

Lorraine (43) lost her dad Sandy to leukaemia in 2011, only months before her son Alex was born.

She said, “My dad knew I was pregnant but I’m sad he didn’t have the chance to ever meet Alex.

“Now I’m proud to be part of a big charity which is funding vital research into cancer so more families have more tomorrows.

“And that can start with something as simple as a barbecue.” Tickets for the BBQuiz are £10 – which includes your food – and there will be prizes to be won in a raffle. It starts at 7pm.

The Dunfermline committee, which has been raising funds since 1957, was chosen to launch the new nationwide BBQ campaign for Cancer Research UK.

The charity’s new fund-raising campaign is calling on supporters to host a barbecue any time this month, or on the Big BBQ ‘bonanza’ on the weekend of 19th-20th July.

The aim is to raise cash by asking for a donation to attend.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK spokeswoman for Scotland, said, “With this winning formula for fundraising, BBQ-ers across Scotland can cook up some cash for Cancer Research UK and help us bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

“It’s time to rally friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours and tell cancer to burger off!” To sign up to be a BBQ hero and get a free BBQ pack, visit www.cruk.org/BBQ.
