FAMILIES enjoyed the official opening of the new playpark in Carnock last Saturday – an area built through efforts of the community.

The playpark’s ribbon was cut by the children of Carnock Primary School who were heavily involved in the designing of the play area.

Claire Kerr, chairman of the Carnock and Gowkhall Community Council, said, “I was involved in the park’s process from the start and the kids have been great. It has been them that have designed it and thought about the materials and what they would like to have in the park.

“The official opening was fantastic. We met an hour before the gala parade and spoke about the park and the kids cut the ribbon – they all had a great time and are enjoying their new park and are looking after it so well.” The park, which cost around £175,000 has seen members of the community council and playpark organising committee raise funds and apply for grants.
