DEEP Sea World’s three-metre-long sand tiger sharks will soon be sharing their giant ocean display with a pair of mermaids.

The real-life swimming sirens will be taking the plunge as part of the North Queensferry attraction’s Magical Mermaids Weekend on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October.

As well as being able to view their underwater antics from inside the aquarium’s underwater walkthrough tunnel, visitors will also be able to enjoy special ‘meet the mermaids’ sessions on land throughout the day.

Earlier this year the aquarium played host to a single mermaid, however this will be the first time a pair of the mythical creatures has gone on display.

Deep Sea World’s Catherine Gemmell said, “The response from the public to our previous mermaid’s visit was so overwhelming that we decided to invite two of them to make a special appearance this time round.

“Having the chance to watch mermaids swimming among the sharks and other marine species in our three-metre-deep ocean display will be a magical experience.

“It will be fascinating to see how the other sea creatures interact with them and, for younger visitors in particular, it will be a one-off opportunity to see a legend literally come to life before their eyes.

“In between their dives they will also be taking part in special meet and greet sessions in our rockpools area where visitors will be able to see them out of the water,” she added.

The mermaids in question are from Cambridge-based Merlesque who look after a shoal of sirens which make guest appearances at special events throughout the country.

In addition to the weekend appearances, on Friday 3rd October there will be a special evening exclusive event from 6-10pm (see Groupon offer for more details at http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/edinburgh/deep-sea-world-1/45386740). Tickets can be purchased from groupon at £20 for one adult and one child.
