STAFF at the Commercial are "over the moon" to have been awarded runner-up Scottish Pub of the Year 2014.

The Douglas Street pub already holds the title of CAMRA (The Campaign For Real Ale) Fife Pub of the Year 2014 having won it in 1998, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

General manager at the Commercial, Andrew Black, said, “We are all delighted to have come runner-up for CAMRA’s best Scottish pub.

“It is a real achievement to be high up there among the best pubs in the country.

“We have a great team here at the Commercial which make this pub so special.

“It is the first time we have been placed in the overall Scottish pub category so it is amazing!

“I don’t know what it is judged on exactly but I do know that they look at the quality of the beer, service and the place itself.

“We have been at this for a long time and have a great variety of beers to serve – we have a good selection of Scottish variety beers and micro brewery beers that has helped us greatly.” Iain McLoughlin, bar supervisor at the Commercial, said, “Staff have great morale here at the pub and I think that has had a huge part in us being so successful and getting runner-up Scottish Pub of the Year.

“We have some beautiful cask ales, real ales, guest ales and also some different flavour beers.

“I think the most popular is our Courage Directors ale – that is a great favourite here.” The Commercial was pipped to the post by The Steam Packet Inn, at Isle of Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway, who took the title of CAMRA Scottish Pub of the Year 2014. There are now 21 pubs in Fife on the CAMRA guide for 2015, three of which are in the Dunfermline area – the Commercial, the Guildhall and Linen Exchange plus the Ship Inn in Limekilns.
