POLICE have issued CCTV images of the man they wish to trace in connection with an assault in Dunfermline city centre.

The incident happened around 11.30pm on Thursday 30th October in Pilmuir Street.

As the Press reported at the time, Khushi’s assistant manager Ajay Jha (36) was on his phone speaking to his wife when he was attacked.

Sergeant Neil McGurk said, “Since this incident occurred we have been pursuing various lines of local enquiry to trace the suspect.

“The man in this CCTV footage is of interest to our investigation and anyone who believes they may know who he is should contact police immediately.” He is described as white, in his mid-20s with a muscular build, short dark hair that is closely shaved in at the sides and heavy facial hair.

He was wearing a light-coloured short-sleeved t-shirt, dark jeans and had visible tattoos on his arms.

The assault caused Mr Jha to drop the phone and his quick-thinking wife Matangi realised something was wrong and called the police.

He later told the Press, “I was walking on the road and a young guy was walking towards me on the kerb. He looked like he was drunk. I was talking to my wife on the phone at the time.

“When we passed each other, he said something – I don’t know what he said – but then he stopped and kicked me in the back.

“I was shocked and it made me drop the bag of flour I was carrying.

“When I turned around, he punched me in the face. I don’t know why he did it, if it was a racist attack or if he was just drunk.” Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
