The City of Dunfermline area committee decided to back a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) introducing waiting restrictions on Main Street after complaints about vehicles parking on both sides of the road, leaving only a narrow passing place and restricted visibility.

The TRO, which will cost around £3000 to put in place, will see the limited parking bays on the north side of the street removed in order to get rid of the pinch-point and improve sight visibility lines.

Unrestricted parking will remain available on the south side of the road, as well as in a car park to the rear of the shop accessed via The Orchard.

The move came about after a community council consultation with businesses and residents. Main Street forms part of the busy commuter route between Dunfermline and Kincardine and sees express bus services operate through Crossford.

Concerns were raised due to traffic flow being restricted when vehicles were parked on both sides of the road, affecting both general traffic and the large coaches which operate the public bus services.

Furthermore, the restricted visibility exiting The Orchard was said to deter shoppers using the car park and encourages more on-street parking, adding to the problem.

The new parking restrictions will extend along the north side of Main Street to the community hall in order to protect access to the off-street parking outside the beauty salon and hairdresser. It will also protect sightlines for vehicles using Alison Grove and adjacent driveways.

In addition to the parking restrictions, the area committee agreed to erect a parking sign to direct drivers into the car park at The Orchard in order to encourage trade to the shops following the removal of the parking bays.
