THIEVES are raiding West Fife work vans and stealing power tools.

A number of vans have been hit in West Fife in recent weeks and police admit they're at a loss as to how the raiders are getting into the vans, which are mostly Fords.

Police Scotland are now warning van owners here to be wary and said in a statement, "The method used to gain entry is unclear and officers are currently working to establish this but each of the vehicle owners states that they locked their vehicle when parking and came back to find power tools missing.

"The vehicles, which are mainly Fords, have been parked near to dwellings in populated areas. Items stolen include building trade items of substantial value, such as cordless drills."

Inspector Tom Barrett of Dalgety Bay, added, “Drivers are asked to ensure that they do not leave tools within vehicles overnight and, if possible, park their vehicles in a way that access cannot be gained to the side or rear doors.

“I’d urge members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police.

“If you are offered power tools by a seller who can’t provide proof of ownership or if they seem disproportionately cheap, please be wary. If you purchase stolen goods they may well be recovered by officers, leaving you out of pocket.” Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
