THREE members of Aberdour Shinty Club are in a serious condition in hospital following a horror car crash at the weekend.
Chairman and coach Archie Toal was travelling with nine-year-old son Daniel and his team-mate Myles Adams on the A84 on Sunday when their Volkswagen Golf was involved in what police described as a “serious road traffic collision involving multiple injuries”.
Officers said that the two youngsters were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow suffering from “life-threatening injuries”, while the vehicle’s driver was also seriously injured.
The accident happened at around 5.15pm on the Callander to Strathyre stretch of the road, which connects Stirling with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, when Mr Toal’s vehicle collided with a Citroen Berlingo.
A 30-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl travelling in the Citreon also suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The Aberdour group had been travelling home from Taynuilt, located 12 miles east of Oban, where the club’s P5 and under and P6/7 teams had been competing in a six-a-side tournament.

Aberdour coach Lisa McColl travelled to the event and said that everyone at the club was still in shock by what happened, and that their “thoughts and prayers” were with the families affected.
She said, “We are still getting our head around everything at the minute and, as far as I know, Archie, Daniel and Myles are still in intensive care in Glasgow. I was following behind and arrived after it happened so didn’t see it, but obviously there is still a lot of shock because these are people that we all know so well. I was helping relay information with the police, which was difficult, but the thoughts and prayers of all the players, families and committee of Aberdour Shinty Club are with the Toal and Adams families at this difficult time. Our hearts go out to them.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said, “Police in Forth Valley Division responded to a serious road collision on the A84 on Sunday 13th September.
