AMAZON are set to open a new temporary lorry park at the old Kingdom Services site near Crossgates following complaints from Duloch families.

Homeowners have been upset about HGVs parking the length of Sandpiper Drive, close to the retail giant’s distribution depot This week, Amazon confirmed they have opened the new lorry park, off Junction 3 towards Crossgates, and negotiations to secure a long-term solution are now well under way.

Dunfermline MSP Cara Hilton said the Amazon lorry “chaos” had been frustrating Duloch residents for years and first raised concerns about the issue back in 2013.

She’s been in discussions with Amazon, Fife Council and Dunfermline North councillor Helen Law to seek a solution to the problem.

She said: “With Christmas fast approaching and HGV parking already a problem right along Sandpiper Drive, I’m pleased that a temporary solution has been announced by Amazon this week.

“Getting this sorted out has been a top priority for me since my election two years ago and I have been actively involved in seeking a solution to this issue.

“While we have seen progress, in respect of double-yellowing along Sandpiper and improved signage, the problem has certainly not gone away and residents are rightly concerned about road safety, especially at this time of year. I have been working hard with both Amazon and Fife Council to develop a solution and I am pleased Amazon now fully accept there is a problem and are working to get it sorted out as quickly as possible.

“I understand that Amazon have opened a new Amazon lorry park facility at the old Kingdom Services site, for a two-month period in the run up to Christmas.

“This will include toilets, lighting and security, making it a much more attractive option for haulage companies.

“Amazon have agreed to actively promote this new facility on all their dispatch notes for drivers and will monitor this rigorously to ensure companies delivering to the site have the message.

“Hopefully, this will make a difference in the weeks ahead to local residents and commuters alike.”

Negotiations are now under way to provide permanent lorry park facilities near the Amazon depot, while Fife Council will provide a daily patrol on Sandpiper Drive to monitor the parking situation.

Cllr Law added: “This is very welcome progress.

“I’m really pleased that Amazon recognise the strength of feeling on this issue in the local community and are working in partnership with Fife Council to resolve this ongoing issue.”
