DUNFERMLINE businesses are celebrating success after dominating the honours in the Fife Retail Business Awards.

The number of local shops, pubs and salons recognised stretched into double figures, with Dunfermline firms receiving the highest number of votes out of the whole of Fife.

East Port was particularly awash with success, with five businesses from the same street picking up wins, but there were smiles from all over the town at the ceremony at Balbirnie House Hotel on Sunday.

Among the 11 winners were Grill 48, The Creepy Wee Pub, Khushi’s, Little Thistle, East Port Bar, Kudos Bridal, Voodoo Tattoo Club, La Vida, Dare Hairdressing, Vollood Hairdressing and Alexander Thomson Plumbing and Heating.

Even more were nominated and Grill 48 owner Linn Williamson said the success showed that Dunfermline businesses were thriving.

“For us it’s so important because you’re nominated by your customers and voted for by your customers,” she said.

“For Dunfermline, it’s just great that five businesses in one street won so many awards. It means a lot and shows that a lot of people are still coming out to support small businesses in the town. Hopefully, it continues.

“Dunfermline had around 67 businesses voted for in total, which was the highest number out of everywhere and it broke all the records.”

Popular Kirkgate bar The Creepy Wee Pub, run by young entrepreneurs Chloe Elliott, 26, and Lauren Tierney, 22, won the award for Dunfermline’s best business and Chloe praised the remarkable team effort.

“We were all delighted just to be shortlisted so as many of us as possible decided to make it a big night out and having six of us there made winning the award even more special,” she said.

“We also want to thank our customers, as The Creepy wouldn’t be The Creepy without them.”

Lauren added: “We’re throwing a celebration party for everyone this coming Sunday. It’s for everyone who missed out – our team members who kept the pub open while we were at the awards dinner plus all our customers."

Dunfermline’s winners could now be in contention for a national award when the final of Scotland’s Business Awards takes place this August in Edinburgh.
