DUNFERMLINE Soroptimists have been enhancing the lives of women and girls in Uganda through the Rwenzori Uganda Project.
At their latest meeting, around 100 people heard about a visit made recently by members to the schools in the Rwenzori area.
The trip gave Soroptimists the opportunity to visit the supported schools and assess the effectiveness of the money and goods provided.
All support addresses a specific need and school, which allows best use of resources and finances.
With a view to enabling women to become self-sufficient and support their families more effectively, the Soroptimists have provided the funds and expertise allowing the development of a small business making reusable sanitary pads.
This ensures work for some village women, but more important is the availability of sanitary protection for girls, which allows them the freedom to go to school during their period. This supports improved grades.
Members were also able to see some short film clips of the schoolchildren, their parents and teachers and the Dunfermline Soroptimists.
