WEST FIFE motorists should prepare for possible delays this weekend as £300,000 of motorway roadworks begin on the M90 on Friday.

The improvements will see the closure of the M90 northbound between Junction 2 Pitreavie and Junction 2A Crossgates, and the A823 (M) northbound slip road, between 8pm on Friday July 29 and 6am on Monday August 1.

This stretch of road is used by around 26,000 motorists each day, and road contractors Amey say it is important to undertake this work now to ensure it continues to operate safely and reliably in future.

The improvements represent an investment of £300,000 by Transport Scotland to ensure motorists experience greater journey time reliability, improved safety and comfort.

A contraflow arrangement will be in place on the southbound carriageway, with two running lanes provided for southbound traffic and one lane northbound.

From 10am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday, the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway will be used as an additional running lane allowing access for northbound traffic to the Junction 2A off-slip road.

Northbound traffic from the A823 (M) on-slip road will be diverted via the M90 southbound, Junction 1 southbound off-slip road, and back onto the M90 northbound from the Admiralty roundabout.

Northbound traffic requiring access to the A92 via Junction 2A between 8pm and 10am on the Friday and Saturday nights will be diverted to Junction 3 Halbeath and then onto the A92.
