THOUSANDS of West Fife music fans poured into Dalgety Bay for rock and retro at a sold-out PKD Festival on Saturday.

Up to 5,000 festival-goers turned out to enjoy a family-friendly day of music, motors, food and fun at the town's sports and leisure centre in aid of community projects in Fife.

Boy band 911, pop group S Club, indie band Space and Scottish singer Owen Paul headlined the day, which also starred all-female, LA-based metal band Dorja, gospel singer Philippa Hanna, blues singer Kris Barras, rockers Xsimple Minds, The Session, River Runs Red, Emerald Sunday, covers bands Blue Delta, Freebird, One For The Road, and Neil Diamond/Johnny Cash tribute act Tam Scott.

Fife's own country star Jackie Storrar – who has been battling cancer – also made a surprise appearance, bringing tears to many eyes.

A motor show – featuring a wide range of motorcycles, classic cars and trucks – added plenty of vroom, and there was also a fun fair, kids' zone and community market.

Organiser Mark Bennett, who's also a singer for Blue Delta, told the Press: “I still can't believe we had 911 and S Club and Space playing Dalgety Bay. Fans came up from all over the country, from England and Northern Ireland.

“Space were an inspiration and Dorja and Kris Barras went down an absolute storm.

“Philippa Hanna was just so lovely and humble. Dorja are already looking at flights for next year!

“Blue Delta backed Owen Paul and standing on the stage with him has to be one of the highlights of my career as a musician. He's a consummate professional and an awesome performer.

“The Session not only performed, they also managed the back stage for us, and Tam Scott – who's never missed a PKD – compered and kept the crowd buzzing.

“I get a lump in my throat just talking about Jackie Storrar – it just brought it all back to when we were just starting out on the back of a truck in a industrial estate.

“We had to add two corporate boxes and I got a text on Sunday night asking for an advance booking on a VIP gazebo for next year!”

He praised the businesses and community groups who helped, saying: “The Royal British Legion Riders brought in some amazing custom bikes and we had some fantastic model aircrafts – actual jets – sitting on the grass next to 1980s and 1990s cars.

“I hope folk who've never heard of Fife, let alone Dalgety Bay, now know where we are.”
