POLICE can’t move beggars on in Dunfermline town centre – as they’re not doing anything wrong.
Community Sergeant Neil McGurk said concerns had been raised with the force about people asking for money.
But he said begging was not a crime and explained: “Our Safer Towns officers, who work closely with our partners in the town, are aware of these individuals and monitor their behaviour.
“In Scotland, there is no specific criminal offence for begging, therefore we cannot take any action unless their behaviour becomes overly aggressive or intimidating to the public.
"Should we see this or be contacted by anybody experiencing this type of behaviour, and we have sufficient evidence, then appropriate action can be taken.”
