THE quiz kids of Pittencrieff Primary School were in winning form in the Rotary Club of Dunfermline qualifying round for the 2017 Primary Schools Quiz competition.

By holding off the challenge of four other Dunfermline primary schools in the preliminary heat held in Dunfermline’s City Chambers, Pittencrieff’s young quiz masters – Freya McKay, Juliet Wallace, Matthew MacKenzie and Matthew Wilson – secured the Rotary Club of Dunfermline trophy.

The win also secured a place in the area finals on Saturday, April 29, at Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy.

Townhill were runners-up, with St Leonard’s and McLean in joint third place and St Margaret’s fifth.

The event was organised by Sean Doran, Rotarian, the club’s inquisitor was Ralph McCran, a local solicitor, and the questions were set by John Anderson, fellow Rotarian and retired headteacher.

Around 500 schools, supported by nearly 80 Rotary clubs in District 1010, are expected to compete in this year’s quiz competition, with the top two teams from each area final advancing to the district final at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on Saturday, June 10.
