Police have slammed a "mindless" act of vandalism after the Andrew Carnegie statue in Pittencrieff Park was damaged.

The stone sculpture in the Glen of Dunfermline's most famous son was spray painted with graffiti.

Dunfermline police said the incident happened on Thursday and are now appealing for witnesses.

Inspector Ian Flynn from Dunfermline Police Station said: "This is a mindless act of damage that will require Fife Council to attend and clean up at the taxpayers' expense.

"Anyone who witnessed this incident occur, or who believes they have information that can assist with our inquiries is asked to come forward."
