PUPILS at St Columba’s were asked to challenge their preconception of takeaway food last week.

Working with a team of pizza chefs from Tony Macaroni and home economics staff, S1 students created their own healthier pizzas.

They then watched the pizzas being baked in the mobile wood-fired clay oven and were treated to a serving at lunchtime.

“I learned the difference between healthy pizza and unhealthy pizza," said Courtney Nolan and Suzannah Mackay.

Jason Muldoon and Kyle Beveridge added: “We enjoyed our pizza baking on Friday, it was good fun! We learned how to flavour your pizza dough, how to flavour your pizza and that what you put on top depends if the pizza is healthy or unhealthy.”

The visit will help pupils to understand that their favourite treats don’t have to be unhealthy and there are easy ways to enjoy their five-a-day.

All of the school’s hard-working staff members were also been invited to enjoy a pizza at lunchtime to thank them for their efforts.

The Tony Macaroni pizza truck also visited Queen Margaret Hospital last week to hand out free pizzas to hard-working staff earlier this month.
