A SHOPLIFTER who claimed he was pressured to steal to obtain a new job has been banned from returning to Dunfermline.

Marian Pana, 59, appeared with a translator at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Pana, of Dens Road, Dundee, admitted that on May 12, at Debenhams, Kingsgate Centre, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of fragrances.

Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said: “He was working in Germany and arrived in this country on 1st February.

“He has found it difficult to obtain employment because of his lack of English. He met an individual who said he could find him work and travelled with him to Dunfermline.

“He thought the job was in Dunfermline but when he got here he was told he would be required to steal before he would be considered for this job.

“He stupidly agreed to do this.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Pana will be sentenced on June 6. Bail was granted on condition that Pana does not enter Dunfermline other than for court appearances.
