Legal action will be taken by Fife Council against the landowner responsible for the terrible stench that has lingered over Dunfermline since last week.
The local authority confirmed that they would serve a notice on Muir Dean, owners of the former opencast mine site in Crossgates, to prevent the vile smell plaguing us again.
Complaints were made by locals last week calling on Fife Council and SEPA to take action with some saying the smell is making them feel "physically sick".
The source of the odour was caused from approximately 1,000 tonnes of limed distillery waste, which was spread on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
Fife Council confirmed that the waste is a by-product of the distilling process and is not, as reported by some, animal or human waste.
They have also been assured that no further limed distillery cake will be spread at this site.
More to follow in this week's Dunfermline Press, out Thursday.
