A DUNFERMLINE serial offender who bit a police officer when he was being arrested has been jailed.
Barry Purches, 48, of Petrel Way, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on January 27, at Inchkeith Drive, Dunfermline, he assaulted PC Geoff Nicol by biting him on the body.
Depute fiscal Claire Kennedy said: “In the early hours of the morning, officers were in attendance at the locus attempting to arrest Mr Purches. During that time there was a struggle and he bit PC Nicol on his right lower leg over his clothing.”
Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said: “He had been struggling with drug misuse. He had taken a number of substances and was heavily under the influence. He has little recollection but thought the police were being heavy-handed with him.
“He later apologised to the officer when he had calmed down.”
Sheriff Derek Reekie told Purches: “You’ve got a very extensive record for a huge variety of offences.” He jailed him for 120 days.
