SCOTS band Altinak can’t wait to step out on the King Tut’s stage.

This will be the Linlithgow quartet’s second time at the Glasgow venue and they’re promising fans a night they won’t forget.

The band told the Evening Times: “We still can’t really believe that we are being allowed to headline King Tut’s. It’s such an iconic venue and we can’t wait to play for our friends and supporters.

“You won’t be sitting down that’s for sure.

Glasgow Times:

Altinak – a name play on the Orion’s Belt star Alnitak – previously performed at the legendary venue for BBC Introducing.

The band added: “They have a staircase where you see the names of bands who have played before you. It makes it really special walking out onto the same stage as Oasis, Twin Atlantic, Biffy Clyro and Coldplay – it makes anything seem possible.”

The band – Mary Nicol (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Eve Dalgety (backing vocals, bass), Andrew Campbell (lead guitar) and Gregor McAdam (drums) – formed in 2011 when the teens were all in their first year at Linlithgow Academy.

They said: “All four of us found ourselves in the music room of a local youth club and just hit it off. From the start we wanted to try and write and perform our own material.

“It has been a great learning experience and we had loads of fun playing small shows, school competitions and some local events. Our first proper gig was in 2015 when we ended up as a finalist in a competition to win a slot at Party at the Palace.

“There was no fairy-tale ending, we didn’t win but it did give us the desire for more.”

Glasgow Times:

One of the band’s main highlights this year was when their track IDK was chosen by Janice Forsyth as her BBC Radio Scotland record of the week.

As well as the upcoming King Tut’s gig, they’re also scheduled to play at Live@Troon this autumn.

Although the band love experimenting and recording in the studio, they much prefer performing live.

They added: “The atmosphere and energy of the room gives us such a buzz, it’s such a thrill to hear and see the crowd clap and sing – it’s just amazing.”

Altinak will be performing at King Tut’s on September 22. For more information and tickets, go to facebook.com/altinakband.
