A HUGE rescue operation was carried out after fire engulfed sheltered housing in Dunfermline last night.

Fire crews and police raced to the scene at Dollar Court just before 9pm as neighbours reported thick black smoke billowing from the building.

It's understood two residents were injured but it's not thought seriously and everyone was evacuated.

The blaze was put out just before 9.30pm as nearby families helped provide blankets for shocked residents rescued.

Police are now appealing for witnesses following the blaze.

Officers are now asking anyone with information about the fire to contact them.

Detective Constable Kris Robertson of Dunfermline CID said: “We are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the blaze and are working with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish this.

“We would welcome any information that may assist us with our joint inquiry.

“Anyone with information can contact us via 101 quoting incident number 4171 of 10th June.”
