A DAUGHTER of iconic West Fife businessman David Gray has paid tribute to her father after he died last month.

The owner of David Gray Salons passed away at the age of 94 on May 31.

Colleen Cooper, one of his two daughters, said he will "always be in our thoughts and hearts."

She told the Press: "He was the most inspirational, loving, caring father and grandfather anyone could ever wish for.

"He would give a stranger the shirt off his back, tell him a joke to make him smile and not expect a thank you.

"At one stage, he employed 45 staff and he was adored by them all.

"A gentle, loving funny man who will leave a very big space in the hearts of everyone who knew him."

David Gray owned four shops in Dunfermline and one in Lochgelly after starting as an apprentice with George Pulner.

He served for five years before working for Dick Baglow, eventually opening his first shop in Motion Street, Lochgelly, in 1949.

Mr Gray would then go on to open a shop in Oakley, at the same time having his own dance band in which he played the piano, accordion and a variety of other instruments.

He moved his Oakley shop into New Row in Dunfermline.

He once again relocated to Douglas Street and added to his business by purchasing salons in Maygate and at Hospital Hill.

Colleen then opened another shop on Main Street, Lochgelly.
