Celtic played their first match in May 1888. A year after forming, Celtic adopted their famous green and white colours. The original green and white kits featured vertical stripes, however it wasn't until 1903 that Celtic adopted their iconic green and white hoop shirt.

The Parkhead club may have had the same green and white shirt for over 100 years, but they have had some great designs that will live on forever. Here is a list of our favourites:

Lisbon 1967

There is no other Celtic jersey that brings the emotion, passion and heritage of the club to the forefront quite like the 1967 top. The shirt was worn by the players from 1965 to 1972 and it was the shirt worn during the European Cup final in 1967 against Internazionale Milano. The shirt featured a tight, round neckline and fitted sleeves and the classic green and white hoops but lacked a club badge. According to most bookmakers, Celtic were favorite to win almost all their games at that time.

Centenary Shirt

To celebrate their 100th anniversary in 1988, the Hoops marked the special occasion with the centenary shirt which featured the Celtic Cross badge. The four-leaf clover was replaced on the home shirt for the season for the first time since the 1970s but returned in 1989.

Green on Green

The 2015-16 season saw Celtic leave longtime kit supplier Nike to join forces with New Balance. The company has produced some well-received kits and the 2017-18 away shirt was one of the best yet. That year, they won the Ladbrokes Premiership, being undefeated for the first time in history. The top is a hoop design that features two shades of green with a gold badge and has a low-profile collar with two buttons to give it a classy look. It featured a badge celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions.

Treble Shirt

Celtic won a domestic treble under Martin O'Neill in 2000-01. The shirt is well remembered by supporters with its dark green trim around the collar and sleeves. The shirt was produced by Umbro, one of the latest Olympic Games support, and had a huge influence from many major league soccer shirts. The British sportswear maker supplied Celtic with kits from 1976 to 2005.

A Subtle Classic

Celtic has long used black away kits throughout their history however, the most iconic one was 2006-07 away shirt. It featured black and green vertical stripes with the club's badge over the heart, reminiscent of the Crystal Palace Club, sponsored by Mansion. The shirt was more akin to Celtic's 1973 to 1976 away jersey, which was influenced by AC Milan, City and Inter
