A DUNFERMLINE mum is warning Tesco shoppers to stay alert after she was wrongly issued with a parking ticket.

Nadia Ali, of Clay Acres Court, visited the Tesco Fire Station store twice on May 18 but CCTV cameras only clocked her going in at 9.34am and leaving at 6.57pm – exceeding the three-hour maximum stay limit.

The £70 fine made her panic but after closer inspection she realised both pictures showed her leaving the car park.

“Like a lot of mums, I’m often in and out of Tesco several times a day, especially when I live so close,” she told the Press.

“When I got the fine I was shocked because I’ve never had a ticket before and I’m always really careful.

“I only live two minutes away so I thought this can’t be right!"

Nadia continued: “I had to retrace my steps because it had been a few weeks but after looking at the images and checking my phone I realised that I’d been there twice that day to get a few bits and pieces.

“The letter said we would have to get back to the private car-parking company if we wanted to appeal but we were going on holiday the next day so I was panicking.”

Stressed by the situation, Nadia went to Tesco’s customer service to see if they could help and thankfully they managed to record the fine as a fault in the system.

“How could they say that I had been there for that length of time when it was obvious that the CCTV images were both captured when I was leaving Tesco?” she added.

“Clearly nobody is checking the system and I think it is wrong.

“Vulnerable people or others who just can’t remember what times of the day they’ve been there might be inclined to just pay the fine.

“Or you might just be scared you’ll get in trouble and that’s wrong.

“After my experience, other mums I chat to in the playground are scared to go to Tesco more than once a day now. Surely they want people to shop there.”

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are pleased this issue was resolved. Anyone with any questions about parking arrangements can ask in their local store.”
