A SPECIAL football match to remember a much loved West Fife biker raised over £1,000 for charity at the weekend.

Friends and family of Zak Watson gathered for the commemorative tie at Halbeath which was held on the second anniversary of his death.

The Blue Angels biker died on July 14, 2016, at the age of 31 after a collision on the A907 at Bogside.

The tragedy happened just three months after he and wife Michelle tied the knot at Dunfermline City Chambers to the roar of 50 motorcycles, as fellow bikers turned up to help celebrate their big day.

On Saturday, friends of Zak took to the field for either Halbeath Legends or the Crossgates Old School to remember him.

Before the game, a minute’s applause was held after Zak’s mum Carolyn, wife Michelle and sister Sarah released blue balloons into the sky.

Organised by childhood friend Derek Davidson, who captained the Halbeath Legends, it is hoped the fixture will become an annual event.

“The whole day was amazing,” he said. “We had over 100 bikers arrive. The game its self was great – Halbeath won it 5-4 and we had stalls on the day and around 400 people attended, some from as far as Aberdeen.”

Over £1,000 was raised on the day through the stalls, donations and a raffle for which Crossgates man Stuart Cran had donated an overnight stay at Dunblane Hydro.

Since Zak’s death, over £8,000 has been raised for charity in his memory.
