IF YOU'RE bonkers about conkers or fancy joining the Clan Macfannie to sample Irn-Bru-flavoured cider, then next week's Dunfermline Beer Festival is for you.

With just eight days to go to the 2018 festival, Dunfermline's Round Table and Rugby Club have spent the last week putting the finishing touches to this year’s beer barrel list.

The event, down at the Glen Pavilion in Pittencrieff Park, marks its 15th consecutive year and is once again sponsored by the Belhaven Brewery of Dunbar, with the Press as media sponsors.

Between Belhaven and sister company Green King, the two will be sending a total of 14 barrels to the event including their established favourites 80/- and their IPA alongside new offerings ‘Bridge to Nowhere’, ‘Bonkers Konkers’ and, ready for Halloween, ‘Gangly Ghoul’.

Local breweries as close as Cowdenbeath and Inverkeithing add to a line-up of 60 beers in this year’s programme which contains 12 golden, nine IPAs, eight bitters and a huge mix of mild, stout and porter brews.

A few flavoured beers have made it on to the programme too, with Inveralmond’s ‘Thai IPA’ featuring chillies and lemongrass, Green King’s ‘Tequila Mockingbird’ and Tryst’s ‘Peach Pale Ale’.

The event isn’t solely confined to beer, stouts and ales though, with annual favourite ciders from Thistly Cross flavoured with strawberry, ginger or elderflower to name a few. The Waulkmill Brewery has several ciders for those with a sweet tooth, in the form of cider and blackcurrant and ‘Clan Macfannie’, an Irn Bru-flavoured cider.

That’s not all. With dozens of wines both on tap and bottled, sparkling wine and bottled beers, all tastes are catered for; from those who know what they like, to those who want to try something different.

Final preparations are being made to this year’s Gin Bar too, after its hugely successful debut at the festival last year.

Doors open at 5pm on Friday, September 28, and 7.30pm on Saturday 29, with a Saturday afternoon session from 12.30-4pm. Tickets on the door are £10 for the evening session and £5 for the Saturday afternoon; with all the takings going to help local charities and good causes.
