COWS will soon be making their way back to Dunfermline to showcase local art.

Three cows will be installed in the town's public park as part of plans to liven up the green space and shoppers in the Kingsgate were given a glimpse of the artwork recently.

The 'Herd of the Hill' project has been on the cards for more than two years as part of ambitious plans by Dunfermline Central Community Council to improve the public park.

Historically, cows grazed on the grass there between the two world wars
Vanessa Gibson was one of the artists chosen to showcase her work on one of the pieces. She is part of the Kelty Street Art Collective and works out of the Fire Station Creative.

"I think I'm going to call her Melody," she said. "She's covered in lyrics by local musicians from big names like Barbara Dickson to those who are just starting out.

"She is a visual representation of creativity through lyrics.

"I came up with the idea as my art focuses a lot on lyrics and poetry.

"Jim Stewart, from the community council, saw my work and so he asked me if I would be involved in the project.

"As part of the Outwith Festival last Saturday I was working away on it in the Kingsgatee."

The three cows are due to be installed in the public park when the playpark is completed.

The second cow will feature work by Olga Krasanova, while a calf will have artwork from the kids of Commercial and St Margaret's primary schools.
