THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was found abandoned near Townhill Loch in Dunfermline.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Saturday morning by a member of the public who discovered the dog tied to a tree, after hearing a dog barking throughout the night.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Louise Sneddon said: “The dog was tied to a tree and, although she was in good health, she was very distressed.

“If anyone recognises this dog we’d urge them to contact us as we are keen to identify the person responsible for abandoning her.”

“Thankfully, the dog is now in safe hands, and is being cared for by the team at our centre in Balerno.

"Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
