A MAN who crashed his car into vehicles parked in a Dunfermline street after a night and day of drinking was fined £735 and banned from driving during a court appearance yesterday (Wednesday).

Thomas McDonald had consumed alcohol after a fall-out with his partner and ended up hitting vehicles in Wedderburn Street last month.

Appearing for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, he admitted that on August 24, he drove without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other people using the road. He failed to observe the presence of parked cars and caused his own vehicle to strike two cars and a van, causing damage to them all.

He also drove after consuming alcohol where he had 65 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath when the legal limit is 22.

McDonald, of Bishop Avenue, Lochgelly, had also admitted earlier that on on June 1, at Bank Street, Lochgelly, he assaulted a police officer by attempting to kick him on the head.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Clark said McDonald's car was seen to be travelling at speed before crashing into two parked cars and was described by a witness as being "visibly drunk".

Solicitor Toni Pentecost said her client was "disgusted" with his behaviour.

"Luckily, the only things damaged here were vehicles rather than people," she said. "The incident would have been a great cause for concern for the other people whose vehicles were damaged."

Sheriff Linda Smith banned McDonald from driving for 12 months and ordered him to pay fines totalling £735. She also placed him on a community payback order with supervision for 12 months and 90 hours' unpaid work to be completed in that time.

She told him: "At your age of 27, you should be taking a bit more responsibility for your actions and start to reflect on how your drinking habits affect other people."
