LOURENZOS in Dunfermline will be the first nightclub in Fife to have a regular LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) night and drag show with a new event set to start next month.

‘Fierce Fridays’ was created to provide a safe space for the LGBT community.

Lourenzos was approached by Cowdenbeath drag queen Ross Kirkham, also known as April, after he moved back home from Edinburgh and found there were no specific events for the gay community in Fife.

Ross, 19, told the Press: “I had been living and performing in Edinburgh but I recently moved back to the area and found there wasn’t much here for the gay community. Transport makes it difficult to go on a night out in Edinburgh.

“I wanted to see a safe space for a night out in Dunfermline and I thought Lourenzos would be great because all of my older sisters have spent many nights out there, so it’s a big part of the area.

“It’s something very close to my heart being from this community.

“So far we’ve had 300 people like the Facebook page and we’ve still got a lot of advertising left to do so I think it will be very successful.”

Ross has been performing as a drag queen for the last two years across Scotland and has been asked to take part in a show in Dublin in January.

He says there are four events booked every month until February to start off ‘Fierce Fridays’ and to assess how successful they are.

Leanne Scally, manager at Lourenzos, said: “We’re really excited about this!

“We’ve been looking at new things to do and when Ross approached us we thought it would be brilliant.

“We want to create a safe space for the LGBT community. They can come any night of the week, of course, but this is something catered for them. It’s shaping up to be a great night!”

The first ‘Fierce Friday’ will take place on November 9 between 11pm-3am. Tickets are £5 on the door.
